1997 Ford Explorer can't get rack-n-pinion out! Help!!
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer 5.0 AWD Eddie Bauer. I have all the connections off of the rack and pinion including stub shaft, but can't get it off the vehicle. The Haynes manual says tilt it towards the front of the vehicle and slide it to the right and then remove it. The stub shaft body hits the frame before it can even come close to being removed. Is there something else that has to be done to remove this?

Life is not a journey with the sole intention of arriving in Heaven in a well-preserved body, but rather to come skidding in sideways in a cloud of dust, beaten and ragged, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a ride!"

I just figured it out. I had to remove the inner tie rod in order for housing to clear the frame. It would have been impossible if I hadn't. I hate it when Chilton/Haynes manuals don't give the total information needed. Thanks to everyone who viewed my post! Back to finishing the install.
