low coolant level alarm on saturn

I have a saturn that displays a flashing high temp/low coolant alarm. According to the manual if the alarm indicator flashes it means that the coolant level is low. The reservoir is full. I cannot find anything that even remotely resembles a level switch. How does the system detect a "low level"?

Somewhere in the reservoir there will be a sensor of sorts. Give year and model and I will see if I can find a picture. On the sedan, it is located in the bottom of the reservoir.

Thanks for the excellent hint. We removed the reservoir and found the "quite obvious" connection on the bottom. The cable had not been plugged back in after some previous maintenance.
