2000 Caravan transmission
Well, here we go again. After numerous problems with this vehicle (mostly leaks) we now have a self created one. We foolishly removed the cover that leads to the computer box on the transmission because it appeared to be leaking (some weepage around the gasket). Upon removal, we noted the label on the cover stated "removal of this cover may affect calibration". Needless to say, after reassembly the vehicle will not shift out of first gear. I think that we should just drive the vehicle off of a cliff - in first gear, of course!!!

Any experience out there with transmission "calibration"? My nephew noted small springs when he removed the cover but is pretty sure that he did not lose any. They were about the size of pen springs and none of them came out of their respective holes. I believe that automatic transmissions used to use BB's and hydraulic pressure to cause the gears to shift but I guess now it is all done electronically with solenoid valves. I have no idea how to correct this problem.

With that A604 trans, what you did was disassemble the shift solenoids, the only way to fix this , and the cheapest way is to buy a new solenoid pack, you could try to get one from a salvage yard and buy a new gasket were it fits to the trans, of course you might have to buy a whole core, just to get the solenoids. I really don't know of any place that will recalibrate this. I have never even seen any re-mans for this. But they could be out there.

# 92420B
Solenoid, NEW A604 Shift control solenoid 1999-up ALSO ORDER # 92328A gasket Updated design will retro fit all years with a # 92328A gasket. When updating a older type solenoid: Discard the Spacer plare, both gaskets & sound cover.
Install new solenoid with (1) updated gasket. The price on the solenoid is $95.79 plus gaskets.

They do make a repair kit, but I have never looked for any thing on how , or what type of equipment will be needed to calibrate this solenoid. Maybe someone else on this site would know.
# 92424A
Repair kit, A604 Solenoid, 2000 - UP Gaskets, seals the kit runs around $ 33.00
Will not fix shorted solenoid!
On rebuilds that we do that has to have a new solenoid , we just replace it with a new pack.

Re: 2000 Caravan transmission
My nephew removed two solenoid packs at the junkyard (he got two just to make sure he got one good one). He installed one and the problem was solved. The vehicle operates perfectly. Thank you again for the guidance.
