crank shaft sensor on 2000 buick park ave.
Could anyone tell me where the crankshaft sensor is located on a 2000 Buick Park Ave.? Also where the "knock sensors" are located. I have a "Service engine soon" light and the code says these are bad. Probably so, since my car is cutting off with me in the middle of the road sometimes and hard to start. Thanks for the help.

The crank sensor is located Lower right hand of the engine, near the crank pulley
One knock sensor is located just above and in fronr of the starter
The other sensor is located just under the exhaust manifold on the other side from the starter.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to locate them tomorrow if I can. If I can't reach them, I may have to sub it out to someoneSmile

I'm assuming you are talking about the front of the motor being on the left side, since this is a side mount motor and the pulleys are on the left side. Is this something that would require putting up on a lift to repair. Is it something that a backyard mechanic can do?? Thanks for the help..

Looking at alldata, it may be a good thing to sub the crank sensor out. Alldata gives 1.1 hours to replace and it is done from under the car. Here are the printed instructions:

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter.
J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.
J 38197 Balancer Remover.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the serpentine belts from the crankshaft pulley.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly.
Remove the right inner fender access cover.
Hold the flywheel with flywheel holding tool.
Using 28 mm socket, remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer retaining bolt.
Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer using special tool balancer remover.
Remove the crankshaft position sensor shield (Do Not use a pry bar).
Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
Remove 2 attaching bolts from the crankshaft position sensor.
Remove the crankshaft position sensor from block face.

Knock sensor by the starter:

Turn OFF the ignition.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Disconnect the knock sensor wiring harness connector from the knock sensor.
Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.

Knock sensor under exhaust:

Turn OFF the ignition switch.
Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Remove the bolts from the splash shield.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
Remove the bolts from the knock sensor heat shield located under the freeze plug (or block heater if equipped).
Disconnect the knock sensor wiring harness connector from the knock sensor.
Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.

Thanks for the information. I took it down to the "real mechanics" and hope he has a little mercy on me when it comes to the billSmile
