Baffling starting problem
Hi, guys--here's the issue- I'm at a total loss on this one. I have a 93 Tempo 2.3 4 cyl auto trans with 116k miles that has always been babied and runs perfectly. I tried to start it one morning and the starter just clicks against the flywheel and does not turn the engine at all. It's a classic weak battery sound. I used my 22amp hour 1700 amp jump starter and the same issue, just clicking as though the starter gear is turning but not making full contact with the flywheel. I changed the starter and the same exact sound. I attached my booster directly to the battery terminals and the same clicking sound. I tried jump starting it from another vehicle and the same sound. I rolled the car in gear to possible free up the pistons, which I would never believe its a seized engine, but I pushed it in reverse and drive to make the engine spin, then tried it, and the same clicking sound from the starter, nothing different. I need help. I really dont know where else to look and I know you guys and gals have alot of experience and hope you can give me another possibility. Thanks in advance, Bob
Just let me add, the teeth on both starters are perfect and the teeth on the flywheel are in perfect shape. Thanks

Also, just keep in mind, this engine ran perfectly and smoothly. The next day this above issue began, with no warning. I cant honestly believe that this engine could seize overnight. I cant get a breaker bar on the crank. Is there any other way to rotate this engine or any other ideas. Thanks

RE: Baffling starting problem
Checking the grounds will be my first order of business Monday morning--Thanks. It just sounds like the current is almost there, but not enough to fully engage the starter's gear. Thanks again, I'll let you know.
