1996 Z71 5.7, Coolant in Oil
Noticed rapid loss of coolant and milky oil in my 1996 Z71 truck with the 5.7L engine. Truck has 135,000 miles. The famous intake manifold gasket was done at 121,000 miles.

Here's what I've done. Used THIS STUFF; http://www.barsproducts.com/1111.htm. It's supposed to be a new one-step product from Bar's Leaks. Ran it at operating temperature per instructions and changed out the contaminated oil. I've now driven it on the highway for about 150 miles and the oil is clean and coolant level steady. Anyone have any experience with this stuff, good or bad?

I don't have much faith in "mechanic in a bottle" type products, but I feel I may have gotten lucky this time.

I've used BARS LEAKS products all my adult life . Both in my own vechicles and customers . HOWEVER , i made sure that they knew this was a temp repair . THe head is still warped/gaskets damaged . Even under normal driving it could fail. It is one of the few "miracle "fixes that does work . As soon as your "STIMULUS" check comes in (not) fix it right .

Thanks re-tired. Figured it couldn't hurt. At $32 a bottle, I figured it might be o.k. to try. It is a relatively new product from Bar's. I'm gonna watch it like a hawk for further signs of leakage.

This is a new product that Barsleak put out this year. They claim that you will not have to fix your head gasket after using it. But I'm with re-tired. It is a temporory fix at best. Let us know how long it does last, I'm kinda curios.

gacyota, I'll keep everybody posted. I'm not even sure it IS the head gasket. All I know is I was getting lots of anti-freeze in the oil. I know the intake gaskets on these trucks (5.7 Vortec) are junk, and even though it was changed out about 14K miles ago, it may be bad again.
