'74 Nova - Transmission lessons

It all started with a '74 Nova 350 automatic (indestructable TH350) many years ago.

What I learned from the Nova:
1) General auto-transmission stuff:
The gear shift selector was always a bit off, so I convinced my mother that a B&M floor shifter from Summit Racing was the solution (wink!). This project taught me about automatic shift linkages (originally on the column), how the little lever on the transmission moves to change gears, how to safely cut through sheet metal, and why you shouldn't bend a shielded cable too sharply. It also got me to use the Encyclopaedia Brittanica in the living room to look up how slushboxes work.
It all came in handy 2 months later when I backed into an Impala and the owner complained that his shift lever no longer worked. I just crawled under, found the linkage pin that came loose, and put it back together. Instant recovery and savings of what I'm sure would have ended up in an over-inflated repair bill.
