700R4 troubles

I just repaced my 700R4 with a known good used one.
I installed a NEW torque converter with it. Now when I put it in gear(R or D) my engine stalls abruptly. If I don't hold the brake and drop it in gear it will take off. It acts like the converter isn't stalling at idle.
Should I try another converter or what?

can you drive it and then stop and it not die?
