What is causing this noise on my 1991 Celica? Posted 7-30-2002 19:03
I have a 1991 Toyota celica with about 155,000 miles on it. A few months ago it started making a grinding noise when I was turning the wheel to the right (at high and low speeds), so i took it to a local mechanic and he replaced the wheel bearings and that seemed to fix the problem for the time being. Now it is back and is worse then ever, it only makes the noise whn i turn to the right (never to the left), the mechanic indicated that he thought it was related to the transmission, but wasnt 100%sure... I thought it was the CV joint but he said he checked that nad it was fine....Any Ideas??

CV joints!!!! or struts Posted 6-21-2003 21:51
its either cv joints or struts...
drive around a corner fast so the wieght of the car
goes on to the strut
if it sounds like tire is jumping look for strut problem... look at wear of front tires.. one tire should be worn differently than the other.. if its a strut...
if its a cv joint then it should make noise on every corner but it shouldnt make a jumping feeling going around the corner

grinding Posted 7-2-2003 22:14
try the drive and turn test in reverse most cv joints pop and not grind you also should take it to the tranny shop the differential can be bad if the pin in the spidergears poped out it will grind and finaly punch a hole in the diff cover
good luck
