1991 F250 air conditioning Posted 7-4-2003 00:24

I bought a kit to convert the air conditioner on my 1991 F-250 from R-12 to R-134. I would like information concerning changing the oil in the system. How do I get the oil out? How much do I put in? Any other tips would be appreciated.

to get the old oil out you would have to dissconnect the lines and flush out the oil. which needs to be collected per epa specs. you can throw in the r 134a most will come wil an oil charge. your sytem will probably take 6 -8 ozs. by adding extra oil you may decrecrease the performance of the sytem. also r134a builds higher pressures than r12. on a vahicle your age you runthe riska of developing leaks and blown hoses. worse case tour compressor seals leak or blows up beacause of the extra pressure.
