engine overheat Posted 5-27-2001 01:11

I filled up the radiator with water, and start up the engine, i found the water leak through the exhaust pipe, and after 20 mins, the cooling fan started working, but the coolant reservoir didn't flow through the radiator, obvious engine will get overhated. could it be a serious problem or is it the stop leak helps, any advices are appreciated.

thanks

Yvonne

next time open radiator cap itself to check for circulation if water quivers on top in radiator then it should mean your water pump is ok-if not there is your problem.otherwise find your thermostat and check it see it is working properly(boil in water in pan on stove-reserve expansion tanks are just that "reserve" and in most cases it wont feed directy intil there is either nothing or very little in radiator itself.
But if the water you dumped in the radiator leaked out your tail pipe you may want to think about dumping that car.

if your driving and think its gona overheat turn the air con off, that will take a big load off the radiator and turn on the heater to release the coolant behind the heater tap.

sounds like it might be a blown head gasket or cracked head or block or possibly a warped head, anyway it goes you are looking at a very expensive fix unless you can do it yourself.
