My daughter has complained about the A/C not being cold in her 1989 Honda Prelude. I immediately assumed that it was in need of a charge of coolant but since found out the compressor is not turning on at all.

Is there a fuse or something I am overlooking. ...Could it be that there is some kind of Low Pressure Switch in the unit? How can I find the problem?

There is a low pressure switch so If system is low on refrigerant it will not let the compresor turn on. Take the vehicle to a mechanin that works an the ac system and they can check the level for you and recharge the system. I usually cost around 30 bucks to have it looked at depending on where you live and where you take it.
