00 cavalier running/headlight failure

:o My friend wants to sell me this 00 cavalier for $300 but there is a catch . because of an electrical problem with the running lights he had to remove the relay at that point the running lights and the brights did not work. Now he says that sometimes the running light indicatior on the dash will turn on. If I buy the car is this going to be a hard problem to fix, or is it going to be a goosehunt searching every wire in the electrcial system with a voltmeter? Is there also a good chance of it being to hard or expensive to bother with? Or could ot just be grounding or just a fuse?

Hi bowtiekid, Wow an '00 cavalier for $300, what else is wrong with it and how can I get my hands on it!? With electrical problems there is no telling what might be wrong. It could be a bad switch or module or a loose wire connection somewhere. Ask your friend what he has done to try and get it fixed then you will know what kind of search and repair mission you will have to do. Most likely you will need an accurate wiring diagram and a digital volt meter to trace the circuits. Let us know what you deside to do. Bill

:o nothing really is wrong with it execpt maby high milage. it even has a new set of tires. I'll probably buy it, but just don't want to spend too long getting it legal. He is even the original owner? When I find out what the original problem was I'll be sure to tell you, but I'mm almost sure it's a result of improper amp,radio installation.

when i got problem in the headlight for my cavalier, i find out how to troubleshoot this one. it says that i need to first see the factory diagram of the vehicle and multimeter. the diagram can be seen from gm factory service manual set. reason why you need the factory wiring diagram it is because the wires are all in bundles and wrapped up. Many wires are concealed and impossible to get to. Thus you can't follow a wire and see where it goes. The factory service manual, in addition to providing the schematic wiring diagrams for everything in the vehicle, will show locations of connectors and components, and will show which pin positions/wire colors are for what.
