taking short cuts
One time back in high school I kept having problems with a side post battery on my old Camaro. Finally bought a new battery and new connects to try to solve the problem, but with the jerry-rigged alternator hook-up, couldn't use the regular bolt to tighten in the positive side connection. I just needed an extra little bit and figured a header bolt would do just fine. So I grabbed one and began to crank on it. About 9/10s the way in, I felt a 'pop'. Thought it unusual, but I had a hot date that night and wasn't about to stop to check it out and miss my night with the lady. Well, I should have. We get out to the middle of nowhere to do some heavy petting, and when we're done and I go to start the car, I hear a big 'BANG' and the car is suddenly devoid of all electrical energy. Turns out, the header bolt punched thru the battery casing and the hydrogen gas leaking out caught fire and blew the battery up under my hood. DOOOH!!!
