The Chase 09
It's that time of year again for our predictions of the winner of the 09 Sprint Cup. After 2 races Mark Martin has a slim lead over Jimmie Johnson. 2 interesting statistics from Dover; the winner of the Dover chase race has not won the Cup, and the driver with the points lead after Dover also has not gone on to win the cup. So we have Montoya in 3rd, K Busch in 4th and Smoke in 5th.
My pick......................................
Tony Stewart FTW!!!!!!!!!!

Your right re-tired, he has been running strong all year in them Hendrick machines (makes ya wonder what Jr's problem is?). I hope he can win it this year, he has been close way too many times

6 races to go and JJ has taken the points lead :x Mark Martin is still on his heels and JPM has done a lot better than I ever expected. I'm still going with my Stewart pick though. He's only -84 points and hangin on to 4th

Re: The Chase 09
I guess I gotta buy tickets for the rest of the races and tame my 30.06 and practice shooting rolling tires. Seems to me that NASCAR should look real close at that car.

Re: The Chase 09
Not much more to say. I'll watch the Phoenix race (my home track) but i wont bother watching the rest of the races. Especially if they are going to be as boring as that Dega race.
NASCAR needs to mix up the tracks they use for the chase. Put Watkins Glen in the chase!!
I also think restrictor plates was the dumbest thing they ever came up with. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but all it does is bunch up the cars and it causes the wrecks Nascar is trying to avoid.
Sorry just ranting about another wasted season watching Nascar. Its just not as good as it used to be, and I keep waiting for it to get better and its not.
So next year I will be watching more NHRA and IRL and Grand Prix. The only NASCAR I plan on watching next year is Bristol and Phoenix.

They had to do something to to keep the cars under 200mph . Above that speed they become unguided missles capable of going over the fence. A race car tumbling thru the stands would not be good press. BUT , you are right , it makes for a boring race with the Big ONE at the end when they all bunch up.IMO they should just "dirty up" the cars . This means adding , taking away , or changing the shape so that the cars are not looking like jet fighters . It would put the skills of the driver at the front , and crew chiefs scrambling to make the best of what they got . The cars would not be so twicthy like todays car that goes airborne at the slightest touch and would bring back the days of drafting and the ol slingshot at the finish line.

I miss those days. And I remember Awesome Bill from Dawsonville getting the track record and Bobby Allison's horrific wreck in the fence that brought about restrictor plates in the first place. I thought the whole point of the COT was to make them 'safe' and not as easy to get airborne. After a couple of years of working with these cars, the teams have figured out how to make them fast again. Maybe they should bring back the adjustable rear spoiler and have it damn near 90 degrees at super speedways and 50 degrees at bristol and Martinsville.

Guess we gotta wait till next year. There is something that ain't right with the 48 car. I think re-tired is working on it for him. [smilie=pdt_al.gif] [smilie=pdt_alc.gif]
