Chevy camaro electrical problem and suspension problem
ok I have a 96 camaro and I have a problem where the map lights and dome lights wont come on,I looked at the wires and they seem to be the same color,i traced them down under the driverside kick panel and down and around to the body control module. i checked the fuses and they are all fine. One guy told me its wired to the headlight harness but i traced the wires from the dome and map lights and neither run to the harness. Is it possible that the bcm is bad? Or is it something else,i checked the fuse in the domelight and replace it even though it was good.

As far as the suspension problem is,on the same vehicle i took it to the garage because i thought my front struts were shot but they told me they were not and it was just the bushings that are making that horrid sqeaking sound when it goes up and down, would silicone spray fix this.

Re: Chevy camaro electrical problem and suspension problem
hi caution-Its hard to follow wires under the dash to the module...they get really intwined...so their is no power to the dome lights and maps....they should come on when either the door is open(check door push button)or when the headlight switch is turned all the way up(check the switch)find where the power stops by tracing the wires backwards and you should find the problem(door switch is gonna be my pick)the silicon will stop the squeak for a while but the new bushing will cure it good luck let us know how ya made out....crank.it

ps a schematic would really help you out

Re: Chevy camaro electrical problem and suspension problem
Taking a look att the schematics,,
The body control module (BCM) controls the interior lights based on inputs it receives from
the following switches: Right and left side door lock, or right and left door jamb switches
,I/P dimmer switch,Rear compartment lid ajar indication switch .Voltage is applied through
circuit 149 from the BCM to the following lamps on coupes:,Dome,Inside rearview mirror
courtesy/reading lamps.
Read the BCM for codes,, should be codes present..

The BCM provides a ground through circuit 156 , when The driver door is opened ,The rear
compartment is opened .The I/P dimmer switch is moved to the on position,The vehicle is
unlocked using the keyless entry function. The inside rearview mirror contains switches which
provide ground through circuit 750 to allow manual operation of the reading lamps. Ground is
applied from G200 through circuit 650 to the I/P compartment lamp. When the I/P compartment
door is opened, voltage is applied by the BCM through circuit 149 to the I/P compartment lamp.
The BCM keeps the interior lights on for approximately 25 second after the doors and rear compartment
are closed. The BCM gradually decreases the voltage on circuit 149 until the lamps are off.
The lamps immediately go out under either of the following conditions:The ignition switch is
turned to the run or start position,The vehicle doors are locked..
The BCM illuminates the courtesy lamps for approximately five seconds after the ignition key
is remove from the ignition switch. The lamps immediately go out under either of the following
conditions :the ignition key is reinserted into the ignition switch. The vehicle doors are locked .
When the remote control door lock transmitter is used to access the vehicle, the BCM applies
voltage through circuit 149 to the interior lights. The lights remain illuminated for approximately
40 seconds or until the ignition is turned to the start position. The BCM turns off lamps that are
left on to conserve battery power. The BCM removes voltage from circuit 149 and all lamps are
turned off 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the off position. After the 10 minute
period, the BCM turns the lamps back on under any of the following conditions,Either door is opened,
The rear compartment is opened ,The I/P compartment is opened ,Either of the courtesy/reading
lamp switches are turned on.The remote control door lock transmitter is used to perform any function.

Re: Chevy camaro electrical problem and suspension problem
thanks guys, how do i read the bcm,and i looked at the bcm and used a voltage meter, found the blue wire with white stripe has no power to it and that wire runs from both the dome light and the map lights, will it be easiest to replace the whole wire or check behind the dimmer switch and see if something is wrong there,i tried to open every door and the trunk, turn the dimmer all the way up,down and everwhere inbetween with lights on and off, still nothing.
