How long should new brakes squeal?
I had new brake pads installed 2 weeks ago and they're still squealing. I'm starting to wonder if they really replaced them in the first place! How long should I give them to brake in before it's safe to say that somethings not right?

They should not squeel ........period. The squeel is actually a high freq vibration.Granted some cars are harder to "de squeel"than others . the solutions are any or all of the following: Quality parts , pads , pins etc. shims or compound on back of pads.non directional finish on rotors, properly tightened lugs.

I,too, agree that the brakes should not squeal. Retired has spoken the truth. You are one of the lucky ones. Maybe he was awake when he answered your question. [smilie=pdt_mog.gif]

Here's my take on brake pad noise. As the other two guys said, Your brakes should not be making any noise. Some shops do what is called a 'pad slap'. They slap on a $10 set of brake pads and send you on your way.
Most shops that I deal with will spend the extra money to get decent pads, lube all caliper slides, use antisqueal compound on the back of pads, and make sure everything is put together correctly so there will be no brake noise.
I would take the vehicle back to where you had it serviced. Tell them your issue and test drive with the service manager so they can hear your problem. Any reputable shop should take care of this issue promptly.
