1978 Pontiac GP Brake Booster
Leading up to this post I had problems with what I call a VACUUM leak. Car would not idle only when I move CHOKE plate toward CLOSE position. Yesterday the brake pedal went to floor, brakes LOCK, and pedal would not RETURN to UP position. I removed the VACUUM line from booster and pedal return to UP position, and car did idle better but NOT great. I opened the booster and found much DIRT, dry white grease, but could not identify any damage to the rubber diaphragms. Can anyone give input on what cause the brake pedal problem and how can I determine the diaphragms are bad. Can parts other than diaphragms inside booster cause a stuck brake pedal in DOWN locked position? SPRING is GOOD.
