1999 ford explorer sport 4x4
Is there a drawing on how to change the front rotors for this truck? My rotor and pads[right side front]are shot.I also suspect I may need to replace the wheel bearing as well as I have had a bit of a roar over the last 1/2 year.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks homer.

Go to www.autozone.com and create a free account and search the repair manuals for your vehicle. Once you find your repair, search for brakes and it will give you the information you need. it is also free.

Re: 1999 ford explorer sport 4x4
On a 99 Explorer after removing the caliper and the caliper mounting bracket,
the rotor should just pull off.
as for the bearing ....after removing the rotor and bracket, remove the 3 bolts in the dust shield, remove the wheel hub retainer nut and discard, (shouldn't be reused,)
remove the ABS sensor.
there are 3 bolts that holds the bearing to the knuckle, from the back side of the knuckle, remove these bolts and the bearing should pull off and out of the axle and steering knuckle, although some times a bearing puller makes it easier. it is a fairly easy job..

Re: 1999 ford explorer sport 4x4
Well started the right front rotor repair, but those two 15mm hex head bolts for the bracket removal will not loosen off.Any ideas to help loosen them up.I only have a propane plumbing torch, but don't know if that would be hot enough.I soaked the bolts near where the threads go into the caliper bracket.Any additional help ideas would be appreciated. Thanks homer.

We use impact tools. Otherwise, just pure grunt muscle.
