10W30 DIY Sub-Forum Rules
Every community must have some rules, so here are our rules:
01: Be polite. Flaming, name calling, or profanity is not welcome. If you see a thread that you feel is offensive to the general population or targeted unfairly at an individual, please send a private message to TAC (administrator).
02: Answers are provided by the community. There are no paid mechanics answering questions here, but we do have a very active community of volunteers (at least 10+ regular contributors at last count). Therefore, from time to time a question may go unanswered if none of the volunteers has experience in that area. It also may take a day or so for someone to see, think about, and respond to your question.
03: Try to use the search function for fastest answers. (Search is one of the links at the top of the page) If your question is about spongy brakes on a 1985 Ford escort, try searching first with the words "brakes ford escort" and hit the "Search for all terms" button below the text field. If you don't get results that way, try removing the model and search for the general problem by entering "spongy brakes" or other words similar to spongy like "soft" or "weak". If you still don't find anything that matches your problem, try one more time with just the word "brakes". If you still don't find what you need, then post a new question in this area using the "New Topic" button.
04: Membership is required to post or otherwise use this forum. We used to let people post questions without creating an account, but we started to get over-run with spam posts, so we had start requiring registration first to cut down on them.
05: When you post a request for help, use a descriptive title like
"Soft brakes on 1985 Ford Escort".
In the text of the message, include information about the car:
1985 Ford Escort, 4 door, 1.6 liter engine, automatic transmission, 125,000 miles
The problem:
Brakes slowly go to floor when pressed firmly
Any history:
Brake shoes changed by shop 3 months ago with no troubles since. Hit a big pothole last week and problem seems to have started shortly afterward
And what you've tried already to fix it:
Checked fluid in brake resevoir - fine. Nothing leaking at any of the wheels or on the garage floor when parked.
06: Post all auto repair questions in this forum. Do not private message repair questions to moderators - they will not answer. Please also use the other forums for auto related conversation. We'd love to hear about the crazy customizations your cousin Marcus did to his Chevelle, just post them in the proper forum.
07: If you have suggestions for improvements to this site, or links to other sites that you think our visitors would find useful, click on the "Add a Site" link to the right and send us an email. DO NOT CHANGE the message subject of the email - we run a filter to only accept the default subject line - everything else goes into the spam can, so don't change the subject line.
I hope you find the 10w40 Auto Repair forum helpful. Cars are something most of us deal with on a daily basis, it's great fun to help folks get the most out of whatever they have.
