Gauge Problem on a 1992 Dodge Caravan
I have a 1992 Dodge Caravan witha 3.3 litre engine. Today my gauges started acting up. My fuel gauge is operating normally but the needles/indicators on the engine temperature gauge, the charging system gauge and the oil pressure gauge ae all moving up and down erratically. No warning lights are coming on though. The fluid levels in the engine are all full. The speedometer and rpm gauge are working normally. There seem to be no other problems. I suspect that I may have a short somewhere or a problem with the alternator. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestion? My mechanic does not work on weekends. Thank you.

My mother in law has the same vehicle . Last year had same problem. At first it went away by pushing on cluster. Finally we got a used instrument panel and fixed it.

Check the wiring where it attaches to the cluster. A lot of Chryslers would have intermittent contact there due to the small pin size on the connectors. Then, like re-tired said if pins are not loose.

RE: Gauge Problem on a 1992 Dodge Caravan
here's how to fix this gauge problem in your dodge.
first you should begin with the gauge wire. unplug it at the sending unit. turn the ignition key on. then ground this wire to the engine. then keep an eye on the temperature gauge needle. check the temperature, if it's hot you need to replace the temperature sending unit. if the reading is not hot, check the fuse if it is fine. if the fuse is working fine, then check the voltage. You might notice that there is no voltage. If this is the case, then it is because of some damage in the circuit between the ignition key & gauge or fuse panel & gauge temperature. do some dodge caravan repair on the voltage. do some observation. Check the gauge. If its working fine, then disconnect the wire at sending unit as well as turn on the ignition. Needle Higher then Cold Range – Does the needle this time indicate that it is a little bit higher than cold range. If it is, then unplug the wire that is going to the sending unit at the gauge. Check the gauge again by turning on the ignition key. Watch the Needle this Time – Is it still higher than cold range, the gauge needs to be changed. Check the auto gauge, doesn't it read 'Cold' . Gauge Reads 'Cold' – You can fix this problem of short in the wiring. It is because of this, the gauge reads cold. After the repair, test the gauge again.
