3 speed in reverse and 1speed forward
Ive talked to old timers that tell me this can't be done. But I'm here to tell you. My buddies and I did it. about 40 years ago I think I was about 15 We all had cars I had a little 55 chevy Delray that I payed $100 for Jim had a 56 merc that we bought at a police action for $75 and Chuck Jims brother had a 40 chevy I forget what he had payed for it. We were always out country cruiseing looking for old cars Jim found a 36 ford 2 door sedan for $35 complete it just didn't run.We towed it home and proceded to tear it apart this when we were still takeing stuff apart to see what made them work. It also tought me if its not broke don't fix it We took it all apart and I mean ever thing.even pulled body off the frame engine transmisson rear end all in coffee cans and scattered all over are little 5 car garage we rented for $15 from a saw mill that had moved on. I don't remember just how long it took us to get back to gether we orderd most of the parts from JC Witt. The day finally came to start it It still had the 6 volt system It would not start so we hooked it up to the 56 merc and started pulling it To start it Kept slideing the rear tires on the dirt road So we decided to take it up on the state highway were we could get some traction Still same thing it would not fire just slid the tires. Some how Jim put in rev by mistake while we were towing it It fired almost ran into the back of the merc slams on the brakes that are mechanical and arn't adjusted right still almost took the bumper off the Merc all this just as a state patrolman shows up. And we kill the engine in the process but hay it ran Ive never seen a ticket with that many citations on it. no fenders no lights no exhaust system no windows or windshield You name it it was wrong. We weren't thinking about the ticket while the patrolman was writting the citations we were trying to figure out why we had three gears in reverse and one forward It took us about a week to figure out we had put the rear end back in the car upside down. True storie I have wittnes and my buddy still owns that car. Its in a lot better shape now. Im sure glad he did away with those old mech. brakes
