Harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley?
The outer pulley that holds and spins the belt is not turning. Funny thing is is that the belt is whipping around like normal with the alt, pwr steering, and water pump spinning, but that lower pulley off the crank is not turning with the belt. The AC compressor is also not turning, but that could be because of the other one not turning. So, does it sound like the harmonic? or something else? Thanks.

Re: Harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley?
Sorry, its a

1995 Pontiac Transport 3.1 180,000 miles

That's why I'm so baffled on how the belt is turning, because I did double check that it wasn't turning so fast that it looked still. I squinted right down in there, then looked at the other 3 units turning with the belt? It's crazy. So what are my possible tests with taking off the belt and checking that thing. If the thing was disconnected from the damper, wouldn't it be free to move, and wouldn't the belt that is indeed moving turn the free wheel?

Re: Harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley?
I really don't understand how ..if the pulley isn't turning how the belt is running as normal to turn the other pulleys...
is it overheating??? I would suggest removing the belt and checking all the pulleys make sure they are all free wheeling. Except the harmonic balancer there should be no movement in the pulley on the center or on the outer part of the pulley. The outer pulley is set in rubber, and usually what happens when they go bad, usually it is a problem with the Inertia Ring , separating from the rubber insert, and outer pulley
As far as the a/c pulley not turning...is the a/c on ? The pulley doesn't kick in until there is power sent to the clutch. to lock up the clutch.[attachment=0]

Wow, I am an idiot. I looked again and swore it wasn't turning so I had someone else start it while I watched and it started turning along with the AC as well. It is so unwobbly that it really looks still. Still I'm a dummy for this. Sorry about that guys. Good news for me, but the thing is going into severe overheat after it gets normal temp. So, its off to the cooling loop for me I guess. Thanks for everything. You guys are great! Big Grin
