Jeep Noise
Yeah I got a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0 straight 6 with 189000 miles on it. Last couple weeks it began making a strange growling/scraping noise when it turns. Sometimes it is a pop noise too. Recently well within 3 months ago I installed a new track bar, new steering damper, had my front U joints replaced, changed the front differential fluid, got new tires, ballanced and aligned. Lubed up all my chassis joints and I just got an inspection 1 month ago. When this noise occurs I feel nothing in the steering wheel. My car drives straight and is totally aligned. There is no play in the steering. My power steering fluid is normal color at normal level. Today I raised the car and tried to check for play in the chassis joint, but I found nothing out of the ordinary...

HELP Please...... Any ideas...motor mounts? That was a thought of mine......any other ideas? Any checks or tests I can perform to try to figure the problem?

I think its the ball joints. which are sealed . Go to local napa store and ask for a hypodermic needle adapter for a grease gun. insert needle into rubber seal on each ball joint .give each several pumps of grease. What !ok , go back and purchase a grease gun. See if this helps.

Jeep Noise
I first checked for play in the ball joints and there was none, but I did as you suggested anyway. The was no difference in the noise. It seems to happen when I am driving slow and having the wheel cut alot in forward and reverse. Any other ideas?

RE: Jeep Noise
mine, i experience this and taking so much time to locate the problem in the jeep parts. It starts to vibrate and produce sounds and drumming continues up to 35 mph highway speeds gaining pace as it goes. Even if the noise and vibration will be there in the car going in any direction when you go around a long right arm Sweeper noise and vibration accelerated 2 or 3 times. When slowing down and approaching 35 mph the car sounds like a P-40 fighter and the strength to dive!
