I love my job!
Its strange to be able to say that and not in a sarcastic way! I graduated from vo-tech in 92, and worked in a couple of shops, but being a young ,dumb 19 year old who liked to party more than worry about stuff like making a living, I couldnt hold a job. I ended up working in a factory building mobile homes for eleven years, and I hated every day of it, but the money was good.. meanwhile on the side I did the "shade tree" routine to make a little extra cash. My wonderfull wife finally talked me into getting back to being a mechanic, and Im glad she did! Six months later ,and its getting better every day! I work at a shop that used to be a tractor dealership, so it is pretty big. I never know what Ill be working on next, we work on everything...tractors, trucks, whatever. I live in rural Kansas, so most of our customers are farmers. Its great to be in a position to deal directly with a customer, and get thier equipment/vehicle up and running again, and see the appreciation on thier face.. you dont get that in a factory. I learn something new every day on the job, dont usually get that working in a factory either....sorry for the rant, but I think my wife may be getting tired of hearing about how much I like my job! Big Grin

I have never been ashamed to be a mechanic ,thats technician to you gen x'ers. As I once told an office mngr, in 6months I could learn enough about your job to be able to do a resonable job. I doubt he could diagnose a COP ,multi port SFI ,variable cam ,flex fuel car with four wheel speed sensitive steering, ride sensitve suspension, all wheel drive ,5 gas cats, onboard GPS linked navigation, and 5 onboard bi directional computers. This profession is going to need all the young whippersnapers like yourself it can get. Hopefully the pay /benefits and respect for what us greasemonkeys have to know will keep up. The re-tired gentleman steps down from his soapbox and fades away. [smilie=pdt_old.gif]
