A little custom paint job
First, background on the situation:

When the original engine in my ("Antique" :shockSmile truck finally croaked last summer, I knew a rebuild was beyond my skill and ability...and found out that it would be quite a wait to have a shop do it, not to mention the labor expense...so, last fall...

I decided to purchase a rebuilt engine--long block--figured short-block was still beyond my knowledge & experience. Besides, I just wanted my truck 'back'; really needed to haul stuff this spring! Figured out with the old & in with the new; and I've done this kind of thing before.

I got an attitude about the painting, it's MY truck, so I painted the timing cover & oil pan "Ruby Red" instead of the old Ford Blue. Do you know what ruby red looks like? HOT PINK! Kinda surprised me, but I left them that color. What girl doesn't like pink!? Other parts got the standard blue, black, gray...I put silver 'tips' on the fan blades with "Aluminum" color paint, just for fun. Took a couple of months of weekends to get it all together and back into the truck, but that's ok--it was wintertime & not much else to do.

Lo and behold, it had PMS--I mean problems (I may never know what exactly happened--valve, guide, seat, stem seal, oil ring???) Took most of the spring & it ran worse every time it started up--so many possibilites--the weather was crappy & it was now parked outside, couldn't get it into the garage. I finally called the rebuilder. They said don't disassemble, just bring it back, we'll send another one...shouldn't be dribbling oil out the exhaust port like that!!

So, after pulling the front end (didn't have to do this last time) & engine *AGAIN*, taking everything apart *AGAIN*, scrubbing off gaskets *AGAIN*, and cleaning everything up *AGAIN* I added one last detail to the paint job.

Handlettered on the oil pan, next to the drain plug (where I'm the only one likely to ever see) it says:

***Smile if it's JUST an oil change!*** with a little smiley face beside it.

Could've had the old one rebuilt--or taken some classes & rebuilt it myself by now, huh? :?

As the ad on tv for the tech school says - Welcome to the exciting world of auto mechanics.Amaze your friends, be the envy of your neighbors, earn mucho dinero, yada yada yada. How would you feel if you where underpaid for the first time and not at all for the second time.Sheesh, everybody knows a pink motor wont run right. Just ask SHIRLEY MULDOWNEY.Do a google on the name if you dont know.A tip from my mechanics helper(wife) paint your nails dark colors, the grease wont show as bad

Am planning to install new one this weekend & get 'er fired up...

I'm not a violent gal, so if it all goes to H***, I think I'll just cry. You'll all be safe at your monitors, hahahaha!

Will update soon.
