Jeep won't start, no one can find out why!
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Clasic. It has a 4.0 L straight 6 engine and is 4WD and has 150,000 miles. When I turn the key to start it, nothing happens. The battery is good and it has a new starter. This has been happening for a while, when I would start the Jeep and drive it a short distance turn it off and then try to start it again, it would do nothing. After a wait of around 5 minutes or so it would start. Now it has failed to start altogether. I have been told there is some sort of "safety switch" that is somehow part of the alarm system that is at fault but I have had it in the shop three times trying to fix this and so far no one has been able to solve the problem. Now it won't start at all. Does anyone know what this is or has heard of other Jeeps doing this?

jeep won't start
The information I’ve found states that there is an update to the coil and wiring. Try replacing the coil if that works then you will need a low impedance coil and a resister in the wiring harness. I found this on ALL DATA it will cost for the information but it should help.

RE: Jeep won't start, no one can find out why!
sometimes this problem occurs when a fuel pump quits working, a coil pack has been gone bad, or a crank sensor maybe. this jeep parts are very important and you need to check this. If you vehicle runs you've got either no fuel in the tank, the pump is bad or a wiring problem preventing the pump from running. Listen for a whine coming from the rear when you cycle the key from on to run. If you have no whine then hit the tank pretty hard a couple of times while trying to restart. If it finally catches and runs you'll need a new pump.
There's a chance your problem is electrical and spark related. You'll need at least a multimeter to start the next part of the checking so let me know what you find there. hope that this works.
