what is max lift a small block 400 valve spring can handle

I have a 1970 chevy small block 400 and am in the process of building. Can I use the stock valve springs with a .501 gross lift camshaft?

that is a lot of lift . most oval track racers run around .475 from what ive read you can do it but its recomended to use screw in studs . You will have lousy ldle and vac problems.The 400 mouse motor has its share of problems . A better eng would be a stroker. go to your local redneck library (grocery store) and get some chevy performance mags ,,,,, someone is always doing a build up in one of them.

yep thats it , my fishing buddy has one on his airboat .with 425 hp, it hums along spinning a 72" carbon fiber prop via a 2:1 stinger reduction drive. boat gets us to secret holes quick at 57 mph gps.
