service engine soon light

My "service engine soon" light just came on, and is coming on each time I crank the car ( 2000 Buick Park Ave.) Before I go any further with this, is it possible it could just mean a oil change? Thanks

Thats basically the same as your "check Engine" light. There is a code stored in your computer that needs to be retrieved. You can go to some auto parts stores and they will scan your car for free. Once you get that code, post it here and we can help you diagnose your problem.

Thanks a lot on your reply. I did just what you said. They tested it and it said there was a small vacuum leak in the fuel system. He ask me if I'd gotten any gas recently. My wife had told me she'd just got some. He took my gas cap off and put it back on. That cleared up the problem. Thank The Good Lord, there are still some simple fixes. Thanks for your

That is actually a very common issue with General Motors vehicles. The newer models have a gas cap light now, so if the code is a fuel system vapor leak, it lights the gas cap light instead of the service engine light
