HOW TO SAVE GAS!!!!
I watched Tony Stewart do it 2 weeks ago at Pocono and Mark Martin did it the either day at Michigan. The best way to save gas is..........DON'T USE IT!!!!!!!!
I was watching Tony Stewart's in car camera at Pocono (i love satelite TV) and he was actually shutting the car off about 1/4 mile before he got to a turn, then popped it back in gear about halfway through the turn and held acccelerator at about 80% on the straitaways.
Now I don't suggest that you shut your car off while driving, but you can use similar techniques to save you a few $$$ at the pump.
When you're 1/4 mile away from an intersection and the light is red, let off the accelerator and put it in Nuetral(if u drive manual trans) No need to use fuel just to come to a stop.
When you are 1/4 mile from street or driveway you want to turn on, do the same thing, let off the gas way before you get to your turn.
Accelerate lightly coming from a stop or or exiting turn. You don't have to 'gun it' off the line to get up to speed. Especially if you are in a neighborhood that has lotsa stop signs.
Don't let your car idle. This tip didn't come from Stewart or Martin, just one I threw in. If u are sitting in the drive thru, behind a train, or a red light you know takes forever, shut the car off. It used to be that starting your car used more fuel than letting it idle, but with these fuel injected cars, you will save so much more fuel by shutting the car off if you plan on sitting idle for more than 30 seconds.

Re: HOW TO SAVE GAS!!!!
great points , HOWEVER , american drivers have been known to take a good idea and go to extremes. case in point the "hypermiling groups springing up . some of these idiots are downright dangerous. I know gacyota this is not what you were promoting but shows a good thing gone bad. read this link and judge for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermiling

I agree, the 'hypermilers' are going a little extreme in the way thay drive their vehicles. It is not safe to shut off your vehicle while moving like alot of those people do, I don't care how much gas you're saving. But if youre gonna be sittin for a while, save some gas and shut her down.
