Dont want to back off any .Need all they got to swing a 6ft carbon fiber prop at tip speeds that break the sound barrier .The problem aint the timing as much as its the compression , 12-1 When i was a kid , yes W2O , even i was young once , we raced stick boats down the street gutters.

What did they make the props out of before carbon fiber? Wood, steel, aluminum? I can imagine something with a 6 foot diameter would be a bear to get up to speed if it was made out of steel...
On small aircaft and airboats a lot of props are made of laminated hardwoods like maple with a stainless steel leading edge . large aircraft and some top end expensive small ones have aluminum props . just recently carbon fiber with stainless edge have come out . half the weight and stronger too. Pricy little buggers tho mine ran $2300.

Looking for some advice
Posted a request in the advice forum on a 97 suburban that has a fuel problem. I notice that you guys here have a lot of good sound advice. Could you take a look at my post and help me out? I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

Weekend fishing trip went reel well . 1st day got late start. Still managed to catch several redfish and trout , no keepers tho (they have slot sizes) That night my fishin buddy cooked up a couple of nice steaks on the Barbie and we had a couple "refreshments" against doctors orders(thanks way2old). Day two, up at 5 , hit the water at first light. Seemed like every cast was a fish .Caught/released over 20 reds ,5 trout , 3 tarpon , 4 jacks and a 3ft shark . We kept 2 reds ,24" & 25" , a 20" trout and a nice flounder . Back at the dock at 10:30 before it got unbearably hot. Now thats retirement. 8)

That sounds like an ideal day - although up at 5:00 I'm not too sure about.

What are redfish like? Can't say I've ever run across something named that up here in the NE.

They put a decent fight then?

BTW - thanks so much for lending a hand to all the folks who stop by the board looking for some guidance to getting their car back on the road. Last month there was over 12 GB of traffic on the server - I had to upgrade my service level twice in the last 6 months. Thankfully, web hosting costs keep going down so it ends up being about the same.

I grew up having to fix my cars myself because I didn't have the $$$ to pay anyone else to fix them, and when I started getting involved with the internet back in '94 I was looking for some way to mix the two. Domains were $40 a year to register and it seemed like all the "good" ones were taken, but I stumbled on 10w40.com (and went for 10w30.com as well) and paid to have them registered in my name. I kept paying the registration fee until about 2001 when the company I was working for went bankrupt and I had lots of time on my hands. That's when I built 10w40.com as an index of all the little auto repair articles people had put on Tripod and such.

That was back in 2001 and 2002, and it didn't really do much of anything for a number of years. I added links to Amazon repair manuals and I figured out the ins and out of writing stories and descriptions in a way that Google and yahoo liked to rank the pages well.
I can't remember when I added the forums, although I remember that we outgrew the first software I used and I moved to the current software around 2003.
10w40 and 10w30 don't make much money - they make enough to cover expenses and pay for hotel bills on a vacation once a year (most of the income from from Alldata sales). but I have other web sites that are doing really well (having to do with web hosting ans such) so I am semi-retired now. I work at home on the web sites whenever I feel like it, adding a little bit more every month or so to make sure if one thing falls off there is another to take its place.

I still want to convert 10w40.com over to have its own tutorials instead of just being a directory. I've written articles on brake pad changes, oil and air filters, and will get to some other stuff in time (AT and diff fluid changes, etc). I bought an old Dodge pickup just so I'd have something representative so I could show changing a thermostat and the difference between drum and disc brakes etc.
But it's slow going. It's hard to justify doing a lot of this work when the truck doesn't really need it. So, when I get enough real tutorials I'll redesign the sight and incorporate them.

Well you have done a great thing here for a lot of people, including me. I try to let all my mech buddies know about this site and they tell me the ones they use. Maybe one day I might look at them if my addiction to 10w40 ever wears off

I agree with re-tired. There is a great group of people on this site and I enjoy chatting and learning from each of them.
