Good afternoon. Had a problem with my van. At 80 kph(50 mph) or on hard excelleration my engine would struggle. Engine light would flash at this time and stay on steady while driving. Code came up as EGR. I replaced the EGR Valve and also the plugs and wires. Just bought van and plugs/wires were original. After replacement Van works great. Problem is Check Engine light again. Codes now indicate problem with EGR and also O2 Sensor. Any Ideas :?:
What are you your exact DTAC codes? Either problem could be electrical , or mechanical.
DTAC P0401
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient (carbon build up)
DTAC P0403
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Solenoid Control Circuit
DTAC P0404
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance
DTAC P0405
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
DTAC P0410
The PO132 high voltage can be caused by other bad sensors, and O2Sensors. just a few things to check......Usaly causing a "RICH" condition.
Inspect the EVAP Canister for fuel saturation. If full of fuel, check canister control and hoses. ...
Disconnect the MAF sensor and see if rich condition is corrected. If so, replace the MAF sensor.....Check for a leaking fuel pressure regulator diaphragm by checking vacuum line to regulator for the presence of fuel.... Check for an intermittent TP sensor output which will cause the system to go rich due to a false indication of the engine accelerating.... Check for a shorted heated oxygen sensor . If the HO2S is internally shorted the HO2S voltage displayed will be over 1.0 volt. Disconnect the affected HO2S .low circuit to ground with the key ON , engine OFF. If the displayed HO2S voltage changes from over 1000 mV to around 450 mV, replace the HO2S..... Contamination of the HO2S can also cause a high HO2S voltage, indicated by a powdery white deposit on the portion of the HO2S exposed to the exhaust , If contamination is noticed, replace the affected HO2S... ...Check for an open HO2S signal or a low circuit which may cause the DTAC to set during deceleration fuel mode. Operate the vehicle while monitoring the HO2S voltage with a scan tool. If the HO2S voltage is limited within a range between 300 mV to 600 mV, check the HO2S signal and low circuit wiring and associated terminal connections. If the wiring and connections are OK, replace the HO2S. .....Check for a faulty HO2S. An HO2S which is faulty and not allowing a full voltage swing between the rich and lean thresholds may set this DTAC. Replace the HO2S. .
Thanks for the Help Jag. I made a mistake giving one of the codes. Instead of P0132 it should have been P0135 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1.
PO135 heater circuit.
The PCM will run the heater test only after a cold start, determined by engine coolant temperature and the intake air temperature at the time of startup, and will test only once during an ignition cycle. When the engine is started the PCM will monitor the HO2S voltage. When the HO2S voltage indicates a sufficiently active sensor, the PCM determines how much time has elapsed since startup. The driver for the HO2S 1 heater control circuit has the ability to measure the amount of current drawn by the controlled device. If the PCM determines that too much time was required for the HO2S 2 to become active, DTAC P0135 will set.
Inspect the fuse for the HO2S ignition 1 voltage circuit........ Check the O2 heater current with the engine at operating temperature, and allow time for the heater current to stabilize. The HO2S heater current is initially higher until the sensor reaches full operating temperature. ......Check that the ignition 1 voltage circuit to the HO2S is not open or shorted.
This code usally means a shorted/open circuit , or a bad O2 Sensor. Monitor the O2 heater current should read between 0.25 to 0.85 amps.
The O2 sensor heater circuit is grounded by the "driver" located in the PCM. Check for a good ground through the PCM.
